IMPORTANT - These are just templates and include placeholder text such as [INSERT] that you are required to update and tailor to your business.

Adding Policies

If you haven't done so already, you will need to create a Website Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy for your website.

Click "View" on the right hand side to get started, then "Add Version".

You'll then be presented with 3 options:

  • Blank Page - This provides an empty field for you to add your own policies
  • System Template - This populates with a template for you to edit
  • Latest Version - This allows you to edit the existing policy (if you've already published one)

The "Reason For Update" field allows you to internally record why you are creating, or perhaps updating a policy. If it is for the first time, you could for example add something like "Website launch", or if you have just started running Google Ads and have added a section for this, the likes of "Google Ads Campaign X" would make sense.

Please Note - The templates will pull through information that you have already entered via Site Settings, such as your Legal Company Name, Address, and VAT Number, so make sure these are correct.

Using the templates

If opting for a System Template, please make sure that you you read the policies in full and personalise them to suit the way your business operates. Especially, replacing the following placeholders:

Website Terms of Use

    • [TIME] - "Our response may take up to..." can be found half way through the document under the "Rules about linking to our site" section.

Privacy Policy

    • [INSERT] - There are 4 placeholders within Section 2 of the Privacy Policy template, where you need to state "the data controller is...", "company number..." (delete as appropriate), "Our registered office is at..." and the name of the "Privacy Officer".

Cookie Policy

    • [NUMBER] - In the opening section a "registered company number..." number is required (or delete if not applicable) as well as "We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller under number..." ; if you have not already registered, you can do so and find out more about Data Protection Fees via https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-fee/
    • [INSERT NAME] - At the bottom of the document there is an example row within the table that can be adapted if you are using additional cookies on your website. Simply delete if not applicable.

You should come across the above by reading through each of the policies, but you can also use CMD/CTRL + F to search for [ on your browser to find them quicker

On the website

When a first time user accesses your website they will be presented with a Cookie Consent pop up, with a link to view your Privacy and Cookie Policy, and either Accept, Reject or Manage their preferences.

The pop up will not go away until the user has submitted their choice. If they click Manage Individual Preferences they'll be presented with the following screen to opt out of any type of tracking.

You can also always find your policies via the "Terms & Conditions", "Cookie Policy", and "Privacy Policy & GDPR" links in the footer.
