Discount Codes
It's easy to create Discount Codes for your website. Simply click the Bookings navigational menu on the left hand side of your Dashboard to reveal a drop down for Discount Codes.
Discount Codes can be configured to either reduce the booking by a fixed value, such as £50 off, or be a percentage based discount like 10% off. You can also set the likes of a minimum or maximum length of stay, and set date restrictions based on when it can or cannot be used.
Creating a Discount Code
Click the "Add Discount Code" button in the top right hand corner to create a Discount Code:
The next screen then requires you to fill out the following:
- Code - This is the Discount Code that is entered at the checkout. If you plan on adding multiple Discount Codes, make sure each one is unique, and is named something relevant to who it's being shared with.
- Eg. "FACEBOOK10" for 10% off for those who follow your Facebook account
- Or "RETURN5" for £5 off returning guests etc.
- Status - A newly created Discount Code is set to the status of "Draft", and won't work on the system until changed to "Live".
You can end a Discount Code prematurely by changing it's Status to "Cancelled". If you have entered an "Ending at date" it will otherwise "Expire" when that duration ends, or run indefinitely if this field is left blank.
- Description - This is only used internally and not seen by your guests, so feel free to record any supplementary information that may be of us to you.
- Eg. "This has only been shared on Instagram Stories alongside an image of X"
- Or "Has been printed out on a flyer and left at the property for repeat custom" etc.
- Time Frame - You can specify when the Discount Code can be used, with the "Valid From" and "Valid To" date fields.
This would for example allow you to create a Discount Code in November and distribute it to guests, however they can only redeem it in December.
Leaving a field blank will not trigger that parameter. So entering no "Valid from" or "Valid To" dates will mean a Discount Code that never expires and will always work.
- Discount Type - This determines whether the Discount Code will apply a percentage discount or deduct a fixed value from the Stay Price.
- Eg. An amount of 10 with the Percentage dropdown selected would deduct 10%
Whilst an Amount of 10 would deduct £10
Only one discount code can be used per booking. And we suggest that you update your Booking Terms accordingly to reflect this and any other stipulations you have.
- Restrictions - Here you can specify whether only Bookings within a certain date range are redeemable for the discount, or if the Booking needs to have a particular number of nights.
- Eg. You could make it so bookings with less than 7 nights are exempt
- Or that the discount code can only be used in the month of January etc.
Managing Discount Codes
Once you have created a Discount Code you can see it on the main Discount Codes screen. Here you can Edit to return to a similar screen as before to make amendments, or click View to see the full Description, as well as any information not visible (if you happen to be on the likes of a mobile phone and see a smaller version of the table).
Tip: Take a look at the "Used" column to see which Discount Codes are performing the best and have been used the most.
Sharing your codes
Once you have Discount Codes you'll want to distribute them to potential guests to help secure bookings, and this will just be a matter of providing them with the Code. You can click the blue clipboard icon to quickly copy codes.
Here are some ways you can share your Discount Codes
- Email Broadcast - Make use of your built in newsletter and share exclusive offers with your subscribers
- Social Media - Share a post with your followers to let them know you are running a Discount
- Business Cards - Leave simple calling cards at the property to encourage guests to rebook direct
- Custom Emails - Create an automated email that goes out 30 days or so after departure
Tip: Make sure you are using easily identifiable codes for the different channels and methods of which you are sharing the Discount Codes - this way you can better see what does and doesn't work. And make use of the Description field to record anything that may help to narrow down what worked, for example the day and time that you shared them etc.
Adding a Discount code
Via the Dashboard
You can add a Discount Code when creating a Booking Offer, or Booking, by simply selecting one from the dropdown. It's the same for existing Bookings, just navigate to Details/Edit first.
Via the Checkout
Guests will be presented with a "Enter Discount Code" field when they arrive to the checkout. They will need to enter the code and click "Apply", it'll then either accept or reject the reduction, and recalculate the Total.
The Add Discount Code field will only appear at the checkout if there are "Live" Discount Codes on your site.
